The Silkin Archive comprises items relating to Jon Silkin's career from the early days of Stand (1952) and the publication of his first collection, The Peaceable Kingdom (1954), up to his death in 1995. Includes: extensive manuscript and typescript drafts of Silkin's poems, both published and unpublished; papers relating to Silkin's work on translating contemporary poetry from Hebrew and Japanese; papers relating to Silkin's interest in war literature, including extensive manuscript and typescript drafts towards his critical work, Out of Battle; manuscript and typescript drafts relating to Silkin's dramatic works, including Gurney; manuscript and typescript drafts of prose and other critical work, including The Life of Metrical and Free Verse; papers relating to Silkin's various appointments and travels, including fellowships and residencies in the UK and overseas, teaching and lecturing activities, and poetry readings; audio-visual items featuring Silkin talking about and reading his poetry; and personal/family papers.
